Coney Hill Baptist Church

Our Mission Statement

“Demonstrating the Love of God together. Making God known through practical service, relevant witness and the growing of Committed Followers of Jesus”

The church at Coney Hill has been a family at the centre of its community since the Second World War.
Our Sunday Service begins at 10.30 am. However, the church is not the building or even a specific ‘meeting’ but the gathering of people of all ages and backgrounds, united by the common knowledge that God exists and that he can be known personally. We, along with all other Christian churches, believe God has shown Himself to us by sending his son, Jesus Christ. This is good news, and we want to share it. A basic outline of this central Christian message can be found below.
You will always find someone ready to explain and share what being a Christian means. However, if you only wish to find out what going to the church here is all about, then we will gladly welcome you among us.
As a Baptist Church, members of the London Baptist Association, the Baptist Union of Great Britain and the Evangelical Alliance, we are organised and financed entirely by ourselves.
The members elect the Minister and Deacons. However, the leaders don’t run the church. We believe God guides us as we seek to work together as his people – the whole church. All the members share the responsibility of guiding the work here. Membership is open to all who have committed to Jesus Christ and his Church.
Our voluntary offerings can be left in one of the baskets in the foyer and are only for those regular and committed members of the congregation and provide the only means of supporting the work here. Individual giving, whether through loose cash or envelopes at the offering, standing orders, tax covenants or online, is another aspect of our commitment to Christ and his work through us.

our faith explained

Many people in our society believe themselves to be Christians, but have hardly begun to understand the Christian faith.

Being a Christian is not something vague and private but something definite and public. Jesus makes it clear that he expects us to stand up and be counted.

No one is born a Christian (although you may have been born into a Christian family). No one is too bad to become a Christian (we all need to be forgiven). No one becomes a Christian by accident either.

You become a Christian by making a deliberate decision to follow Jesus Christ. Jesus calls us to wholehearted commitment.

THE MESSAGE OF CHRISTIANITY – GOOD NEWS!

  1. GOD – HIS LOVE.
    God made us.
    He loves us.
He wants the best for us
  2. OUR NEED.
We were created to know God.
But we have turned away from him.
    We have rejected his love.
    We stand separated from him.
  3. JESUS – GOD’S SOLUTION.
God sent his son, Jesus to draw us back to him.
Jesus lived a life absolutely as his father intended.
He died on the cross – taking our rejection on himself.
He rose from the dead – giving us hope for new life.
Through Jesus, God offers to everyone:-
    – forgiveness for all they have done and a new start.
    – a new relationship with God.
    – the gift of new life, fulfilling and eternal.
  4. OUR RESPONSE.
We need to make a response to God’s gracious offer,
    our response is fourfold:-
  • Repentance – to turn away from those things which are wrong.
  • Faith – to put our trust in God, as he has shown himself to us in Jesus.
  • Baptism – to become a full member of God’s people, the church. (A brief explanation can be found here)
  • Receiving the Spirit – accepting God’s gift to “seal” his work in our life.
