Elliott overcame many personal challenges as well as the tasks set by the Duke of Edinburgh scheme to achieve the Bronze, Silver and Gold awards.

“For all you achievers, this is your day. The only reason that we are all here is because of you. So congratulations once again, well done. Feel a bit proud of what you have managed to achieve, and when you leave this garden, just walk a few inches taller. There are people out there, and you may know some of them who say, ‘Oh, the Duke of Edinburgh award, oh, I can do that’. The difference is you know you can! Well done.”
